Thanks for stopping by! Being Scottish and having lived in Scotland my whole life, I must say that I have never seen the tomato with cheese on top.
I usually half mine and into the frying pan it goes. The mushrooms are more of an English Breakfast item but have been creeping their way onto some Scottish plates.
The bacon can be thick. It adds something extra. Now for the special part! All you people out there stop being afraid of the black pudding!!
The black pudding is creeping its way into English breakfasts I have noticed and I even found it in Spain only back in September!!
There are many different varieties depending on location but one of the most famous and probably expensive is the Stornoway Black Pudding.
The square sausage frozen variety is not very good so you need a good butcher to make this. Oh I almost forgot……if you want to add in an extra blocked artery then fried bread is the way to do it.

Breakfast definitely is the most important meal of the day. Tasty but refreshingly light. Not authentic. Fry up is similar to Irish breakfast.
I was brought up in Glasgow and its fried egg, tomato, tattie scones bacon or beef ham as a treat fruit pudding, black pudding and square sliced sausage as standard or round slice, optional was link banger beans.
Mushrooms not common when I grew up though popular addition now. This served with plain bread and butter or buttered white toast.
In coastal towns you might get kippers or smoked salmon in Dundee you get butteries with your brekky, I would say most folk have no clue as there is no definitive answer.
The mainstays are always potato scones, black pudding, square sausage and beans. I like a few slices of nice spicy haggis with mine and a tasty runny egg to dip stuff into.
We have a full breakfast about once a week on a Saturday or Sunday like most folk here in Scotland.
Jesus wept…. While excited to visit Scotland for work, I am less than thrilled about eating. From the looks of it, the Scots are as bad at food as the English are.

Pictured to the right are those ingredients which comprise the basics of a full Scottish breakfast. Starting at the top left and moving round in a clockwise direction, we have bacon, tattie scones , lorne sausage , egg, black pudding , onion and tomato.
I am of course aware that it is a much healthier option to grill the sausage, black pudding, bacon and tomato, as opposed to frying them as I have done on this occasion.
The one and only reason why I have chosen to fry rather than grill is that this is the more traditional method of preparing a full Scottish breakfast and the one which I wished to demonstrate.
Please do grill the aforementioned ingredients where possible and in such an instance, only one frying-pan will be required. To prepare a full Scottish breakfast in the fashion described below, you will require two frying-pans one of which at least should be fairly large, a spatula or turner, a small bowl or cup and a little sunflower or vegetable oil in each pan.
The first step to cooking a full Scottish breakfast in this manner is to add a little oil to the largest frying-pan.
It is important to bring the oil up to a moderate heat before adding any of the ingredients - otherwise the food will soak up the cold oil rather than start to cook the moment it is added to the pan.
As the Lorne sausage and the black pudding will take longest to cook, they should be added to the pan first. Both of these items are sliced from larger blocks, so their thickness will vary and thus their required cooking time.
On average , they will take about three minutes each side. Note also that although the black skin which encases the black pudding is usually made of plastic and inedible, it should be left on during cooking and only removed later, otherwise the black pudding may very well begin to disintegrate during the frying process.
When the Lorne sausage and black pudding have been turned, the bacon medallions or rashers should be added to the frying-pan.
The tomato should be halved and also added, flesh side down. Sunflower oil should be added to the second frying pan and brought up to a medium heat. The bread should be added and the egg carefully poured on top so that the yolk sits in the hole.
Do not move the bread around the pan in any way, as this will be likely to break the yolk at this early stage and spoil presentation.
After around three minutes, very carefully turn the bread over with a spatula and fry for a further three minutes on the second side.
When the egg has been added to the pan, the bacon should be placed on a grill pan and under a hot grill for two to three minutes each side until done.
A full Scottish breakfast can be plated up in any desired fashion and this will of course largely depend upon the component ingredients. In this instance, I have uncovered the sausages and black pudding and transferred them to the serving plate.
I have arranged the bacon as a bed for the bread and egg and sat the tomatoes and mushrooms around the plate at random.
Tomato ketchup or HP Sauce is optional and is best placed on the table for people to help themselves. There are doubtlessly people who will read this and be horrified that I haven't incorporated such as tattie scones in my full Scottish breakfast recipe.
The reason why I have omitted this most delectable of Scottish ingredients is simply that I wanted to make the egg and bread combination.
That is not something which is typical of a full Scottish breakfast but rather my own creation. A traditional fried egg will normally be served, together with either fried bread or a fried tattie scone.
Equally, baked beans in tomato sauce may be a surprise omission. The reason for the omission here is that while I can eat baked beans at the right time, they are not something I personally like on my breakfast plate.
Fried onions are another option but again, they are something I prefer to include when my fry up is eaten at either lunch or dinner time, rather than first thing in the morning.
